Holman Spotlight Starter Kit: Smart Garden Lighting Review

The Benefits of Garden Lighting

As I've said before, garden lighting instantly changes the look and feel of your garden and backyard. It extends the visual appeal and ambience of your outdoor space into the night.

But the benefits aren’t limited to when you're outside. Lighting up your garden space also enhances your interiors. That dark glass at night? It becomes a picture window showing off your glowing garden.

Lighting is also just one of the many ways to elevate your outdoor setup with smart tech.

Smart Garden Lighting Kits

Before reviewing this kit, my garden lights were pretty old-school: wired lighting connected to a basic outdoor smart plug.

So I was keen to try a proper smart garden lighting kit—especially something friendly for readers who aren’t too into DIY.

Holman Spotlight Starter Kit

I entered this review hoping for something plug-and-play—and the Holman Spotlight Starter Kit delivered. With its prebuilt connectors and intuitive design, it’s about as simple as plugging in a kettle.

⚠️ Note: This kit no longer appears to be available as a single bundle, but all individual parts are still sold separately:

Holman Spotlight Starter Kit

This kit includes:

  • 4x warm white spotlights (go for warm white over cool)
  • 1x Bluetooth controller unit
  • 1x 5m extension cable

For my setup, I added a couple of extra 1m extension cables (sold separately).

Setup & Configuration – Easy or Not?

The physical setup? Dead simple. Honestly, unless you outsource it to your kids, you’ll have it done in under an hour.

Holman Joiners

The joiners are intuitive—just push them together and screw to secure.

Typical wiring flow:

Power Outlet → Controller → Cable → Spotlight → Cable → Spotlight

Repeat for all 4 lights. Simple.

The “Smart” in Smart Outdoor Lighting

Once everything’s wired, it’s time to make it smart.

Just download the Holman app, connect via Bluetooth, and boom—remote control, scheduling, on/off toggles, and more. It covers the basics well.

The Next Feature I’d Add

If I were Holman’s product manager, my next move would be smart speaker integration.

Voice control via Alexa or Google Home is the glue that holds a smart home together. It reduces friction, removes app overload, and adds that "magic" layer to the experience.

In my home, nearly every smart product is connected via Alexa. Regardless of brand, everything works from one voice interface:

“Alexa, turn on the garden lights.”

Keep this in mind when buying smart devices—choose gear that plays nicely with your preferred ecosystem.

Holman Spotlight Starter Kit: To Buy or Not To Buy?

If you want to add smart garden lighting without hiring an electrician or going full DIY mode, the Holman Spotlight Starter Kit is a solid choice.

You’ll get reliable, warm lighting. Setup is fast. And the smart features, while basic, do exactly what they need to.

This product was provided free of charge for an honest and unbiased review.
